Hey folks! I couldn't take the flat lands any longer, so I'm pulling my S out of the garage and trekking to Oregon to visit friends and family. If you happen to see a GPW AP2 with Oklahoma plate just give me a honk and a wave. I'll do the same.
I'm planning to be in the Bend and Eugene area for the next two weeks.
thats weird, my family just drove here form okl. for a family reunion this weekend. look for me in a silverstone AP1 with a maching OEM hardtop. run me down if you wanna drive, im in eugene. have a safe drive.
Walt (Webfoot) and I got to meet up for lunch on Friday and then Shonda, Walt, his dad Wayne and I hit up breakfast at the Black Bear Diner (jealous Garret?) before heading out for a drive on Saturday.
We tried to go on the first portion of the McKenzie, but they still had it blocked off for construction (it was supposed to be open on the east side to the observatory).
We regrouped and decided to hit up the scenery of Hwy 20 over Tombstone Pass and then routed up Quartzville Rd. It also gave me a chance to scout out the drive and see what the conditions of Quartzville was like.
He got more pictures than I did so I'm sure he will throw some up when he gets back home.
It was really nice meeting you, Walt! Shonda and I had a great time chatting with you and meeting Wayne. I hope you two enjoyed the adventure and scenery.
The water was really low which I think has lead more people to camp up the river. It was a lot more crowded in the single-lane road than last year. Once we got up a little higher into the mountains, we only encountered one other car.
There has been some road repairs, with some decent patch jobs. A couple of washed out areas that have been barricaded off. Still the usual debris in the road up in the higher areas, but nothing too serious and it's all easily avoided.
