Sorry to hear it. Try to negotiate with the insurance company.

If you have receipts for anything that you bought for the car tires wheels etc, show them copies they will factor that into the price.
Sorry for you loss man that sucks.

Dont take the first offer unless you like it. Show them other cars in the area that are for sale currently. If you have pics of things done to the car they work just as well as receipts.

My truck was stolen recently and they used my photos of my dvd/nav system, 4'exhaust and programmer to get me 50% of the value of the items.

Sorry to hear about the untimely death of your car.

I agree with if you have the time to part it out you can make some cash. The tranny is worth 750 to 1100 depending on miles.

Thanks a lot for the replies guys; I will definitely try and argue with the insurance company. My car was stock, so not much value addition there, but it did have lowjack. I have already got a couple of offers to buy the wreck, I'll keep you guys posted.

Do some legwork on car values before you talk to the insurance company.

I ran a 2005 S2000 with 20,000 miles through Kelley Blue Book, Edmunds and the N.A.D.A. guides.

You will get your highest "Suggested Retail Value" for a used car from the N.A.D.A. guide (National Auto Dealer Association). This is the guide that used car dealers use to value cars.

Good luck!

From my personal experience with totalling cars, ive had two totaled , insurance places usually give the fair market value. Thats the typical amount of other cars with similar milage and model year in the area.

You should get more than 18k.

A close friend of mine works and has many connections in the legal area of insurance claims. I could give you her number if you feel like theyre going to rip you off.

So, I called up the insurance company today. I mentioned to him that the other guy's insurance company has accepted full responsibility, so he just recommended me to go through the other insurance company. I know that the other insurance company is going to low ball me even further, so I don't see the point in doing this.

On top of that, he also claimed that the 3k for buy back was just an example he gave me; the actual buy back is $4300.

id003, If this continues for a few more days, I will ask for your help.

Thanks!
