New PDX c/r
Hi Oregon S2KI,
Just to introduce myself,
Bought a black C/R last week. It's my first S2K and I'm in the ether of new ownership. Anyway, I'm Located in the S.W. area around Hillsdale and am looking forward to enjoying all these exceptional cars have to offer. I've got other cars for the track, but I'm always interested in getting the most out of what the manufacturer let out into the public as a production car. the S2K and the C/R specifically seem to be a pretty good balance of general usefullness, Reliability and performance without being too generally harsh.
The C/R is meant to partially replace the Saab Viggen as a daily and put some fun back into my relatively short commute to Vancouver. Good to still have a crappy weather car around here though. Also, as an incentive to quit smoking, three years ago my wife and I each decided on a present we would give ourselves in reward of sticking to the pledge to quit for the three years to follow. We both thought a new car would be nice. She got a new Sonata limited (bless her practical little heart).
This move started as a shop and buy of the best Elise I could find around 40-45K. Though I had driven them before ( mostly one with the now unavailable gullwing top ) i seemed to have selective memory about how D!@#ned hard they are to get in and out of with the top up. This, coming from a guy who is admittedly a few pounds over my fighting weight, but has no problem cramming into a lotus Super 7. During the Elise hunt I came across a VERY used AP1 and after driving it, decided this was the car for me. Perhaps slightly less agile in general than the Elise, but 50/50 balance and conventional Front-mid engine R-D layout really appealed to me. I had had a 206 dino and later a mangusta and a couple of 308's that sort of cured me of the desire to maintain mid-engined cars. Maybe I'll find an Elise someday, but I sure won't ever be driving one much with the top up.
Untill then, my "practical" S2K will do nicely.
I was lucky, I think, to find a nearly perfect black, black, black (my favorite colors) C/C pretty close by with only 14,700 miles.
I should mention that the patience and undying tolerance of one's wife really helps a guys quest for the perfect toys. Mine, Donna, Is such a wife.
Greetings,
Joe
