PIR event help?
Hey Portland people,
I'm looking for someone who knows about club track days at PIR. I keep a schedule of Northwest track events here:
https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...&threadid=98084
but I only have the ProDrive, Team Continental, and Cascade schools, and ProFormance's two lapping days.
I'm pretty sure there are several Porsche, Alfa and BMW club events that are open to us that I'm missing. Does anyone have any info on these?
Thanks,
Ted

Hey Ted,
There is a list of the events at the PIR website, including links to each respective club for detailed info.

Eric,
thanks, I hadn't seen that page with the links to the clubs, just the overall schedule.
It's still going to be difficult for me to figure out which events are open to us, but I'll do what I can. Thanks!
The request remains open, if anyone knows of a specific club event that we could participate in, please bring it to my attention.
Thanks,
Ted

FYI:
Earlier this year I tried to participate in the Audi Club NW track weekend at PIR in Feb.
They welcomed cars other than Audi to participate, including our S2000s, but their rollover requirement for convertibles needed the driver's head w/ helmet to be at least 2" below a stick placed from the top of the windshield to the top of the roll-bar.
As our roll-hops are notoriously on the low-side, I couldn't make this requirement. I offered to sign a waiver, but they were firm on the rule, so I had to pass on the event.
I might try the BMW event on May 30 if I don't go to Sac2K days or Laguna Seca. I think they are friendly to our cars.
Ultimately, I'm still looking for track events locally that will allow the use of personal timing devices. I hope Speedventures will run some events in the NW next year.

I have done 3 events with the BMW Club. The events are 4 classed 20 min. sessions with a "free for all" at the end when time allows (which it always has except once last years when there was a pretty serious accident that ended the day on the 2nd to last session). There is a mandatory instructor for the Novice groups only, and those instructors consist of experienced drivers in the club.
No problem with the cars, the DO accept the factory roll loops. The other thing that really attracted me to this club is that they allow one passenger to go out with drivers who are in any of the classes except the Novice. That makes it fun so you can take out your wife, buddy, etc. so that they can experience the track. Turns out that the smell of brakes, rubber, and hard braking/cornering makes my wife very nauseous.
It costs $100 per day w/$50 if you have your car entered into more than one class/driver (passengers are free w/waiver). You have to be a member of one of the clubs--the BMW Club is $35 annually per family. So overall it is extremely reasonable.
This is a very laid back format. If you want top notch instruction and classroom time (BMW has none) go somewhere else. If are just looking for a fun, relatively safe, speed fix-this is perfect.
Additionally, everyone is pretty nice. Lots of BMWs, always 5-6 WRX's, and at 2 of the 3 days I attended only my S2000. Bryon also attended one day last year with me in his.

Marcus,
thanks for the scoop on the Audi club reqiring the broomstick test. It's always a good idea to verify rollbar requirements for any new group. I thought Ray ran with them once last year...?
ProFormance will allow timing under certain conditions. I have used it three times with them (twice at Pacific Raceways, once at PIR). If you have a decent amount of track experience and talk to Don about it, he will probably allow it, assuming you come across as level headed and stay out of trouble.
SpeedVentures was planning on doing one day at PIR and two days at Spokane this year; for some reason they cancelled them. Let's all be sure to let them know we would like them to do events up here next year.
Shane,
thanks for the info on the BMW club events at PIR; I've heard from others that they're good, too. Do you know of any upcomming dates?
Are you guys considering coming up for the May 20 event at Pacific Raceways? There looks to be around 10 S2000s participating in that one.
Thanks,
Ted

Shane,
when I get some time, I'll write up those BMW club events and add them to the schedule. Thanks again!
Marcus,
work, or track day... Hmmmm... All I can say is this'll be a great first-timer event at PR, and a chance to meet several S2000 owners from BC and Seattle.

OK, I added those BMW/Tri-club schools to the schedule. Thanks again, Shane!
I seem to remember in years past that the Tri-Club had other events besides the schools that S2000 owners could do. Do any of you know about that?
