Default PIX OF NEW MOTOR!

So last night I spun a bearing in my number two cylinder. Got a tow to the dealer at 3:30 a.m. and got a call from them this morning with the bad news. The "advisor" told me that I would definitely need a new short block ($2192 after my discount because I work at a Lexus dealership) and POSSIBLY a new cylinder head ($2557). Then $1800 labor on top of that. I haven't authorized them to do any work yet or order any parts so I just wanted to hear some other opinions and input from some members. Any input and comments would be greatly appreciated!! Please help a very dissapointed S2000 owner!!

Ouch! David! Tha't awful!

How do you spin a bearing? At 3:00 am, were you out dusting Mustangs?

My only thought would be to get ahold of an engine from a wrecked S. You have talked about selling your car anyway, so this may be the least expensive way to get it running before you sell. It has to be less than $6500 for repairs.

You could always take it to a good engine builder, and build something better

Best bet will be buying a used motor, wouldn't be too tough to put in yourself and then sell your motor - you'd still get a good chunk of change for it, I'd bet your net loss would only be $1500 or so.

Yea it really sucks. I was driving normally on the freeway!! I had redlined TWICE, that's it. A performance car, especially the S2000, should be able to take it. My oil level was fine too.

As of now I am most likely just going to have the repairs done then sell my car.

There are a couple of Carrera GTs on eBay calling my name

That is aweful man, I'm so sorry, that is freakish though. You must have just gotten a weak bottom end. Weird. That is definately not common... especially when your oil is good.

I would just get a used short block, I don't see why you'd need a head when you spun a bearing. I guess it is techinically feasible due to the super tight clearances between the valves and pistons in that engine, but still spinning a bearing doesn't mean your engine went off timing unless it snapped the chain when the bearing seized. Know anyone who wants to help you rebuild your engine? hehehe

I think I am just going to try and find a short block and hope that the cylinder head wasn't damaged. Everyone here is telling me that the cylinder head should be just fine.
