Default Question about CAI for local owners.

Hey guys/gals, I have a question for those who mod their car. If you have a CAI, how is the sound compared to the OEM intake? What type of intake do you have on your car? I'm debating whether it's worth it to get one for my car. I asked this question in the Talk Forum but didn't get the answer that I was looking for. If the sound is loud like those obnoxious civic exhausts then I'd rather pass and stick with the OEM. Thanks.

Try taking your airbox cover off and drive for a bit. You will lose a couple horsepower, but at least you'd hear the sound difference. Some onwers left theirs off just cause they liked the sound.

All cold air intakes will be no louder than stock at low throttle (daily driving). But, when you open up the gas it will growl, and when vtec hits it will growl even harder. I had the AEM cold air, and the HKS racing suction kit (very rare). The hks was louder than the AEM (especially in vtec, it sounded like an explosion when vtec hit ). You really just need to find someone around here who has one installed and see if you like it (or use luke's idea about the airbox cover since that will give you a general idea of the sound). Good luck!

I was thinking of removing the firewall in my car to give the engine a meaner, more deliberate sound to it. What do you guys think?

That would be sick! Or you could just drill 1 or 22 holes in it so the sound will get through better!!! Too bad I sold my car or I would try that!

Not sure you got the joke, my friend... (or maybe not?)

Not that I'm criticizing Hondo's reasons for wanting a CAI, it's just that I have no interest the "look cool/sound cool" mods.

Hondo:

If your'e truly concerned about "obnoxious" sound, what you install on the car's back end will influence audible output the most -- the CAI will have little impact in that regard.
