Default Rattles from the back?

Like a lot of you guys, I have an aftermarket exhaust, it's been on the car for quite some time. As far back as I can remember, ,
I've had a rattle in a certain rpm range. Thinking its from the exhaust, I did some investigating.

Without knowing where the heck it was coming from, I lifted the car and inspected the exhaust. All bolts were tight, nothing was hitting any sort of metal anywhere. Hangers were perfect. I then took everything out of the trunk, and the sound was still there.

I was chatting with a friend (Thanks Takchi ) who suggest maybe it was rocks? So a couple nights ago when I was raising my car, I decided to take the back of the car apart

Once I got the rear bumper cover off, these styrofoam pieces (impact beam insert) that are inserted into the bumper came off, followed by a cascade of gravel!

After that I looked within the bumper itself and found more gravel, which I vacuumed out

The end result, which may not look like a lot, but it was, is a pile of gravel

The rattles in the back are 95% gone. I have a feeling there are some more around that hopefully will work their way out over time.

While the bumper cover and wheels were off I took the time wax all of the metal pieces that the bumper cover sits on and then I greased and lubed the rubber exhaust hangers

I'm glad my speculation led to the problem!

You know you dont need that foam junk in the back to hold the bumper on It must weigh like 1.3 lbs all together

It is not there to hold the bumper on - I think it is there to keep the damage to the bumper skin down in a low speed impact.
