Rattles from the back?
Like a lot of you guys, I have an aftermarket exhaust, it's been on the car for quite some time. As far back as I can remember,
,
I've had a rattle in a certain rpm range. Thinking its from the exhaust, I did some investigating.
Without knowing where the heck it was coming from, I lifted the car and inspected the exhaust. All bolts were tight, nothing was hitting any sort of metal anywhere. Hangers were perfect. I then took everything out of the trunk, and the sound was still there.
I was chatting with a friend (Thanks Takchi
) who suggest maybe it was rocks? So a couple nights ago when I was raising my car, I decided to take the back of the car apart
Once I got the rear bumper cover off, these styrofoam pieces (impact beam insert) that are inserted into the bumper came off, followed by a cascade of gravel!

After that I looked within the bumper itself and found more gravel, which I vacuumed out

The end result, which may not look like a lot, but it was, is a pile of gravel

The rattles in the back are 95% gone. I have a feeling there are some more around that hopefully will work their way out over time.
While the bumper cover and wheels were off I took the time wax all of the metal pieces that the bumper cover sits on and then I greased and lubed the rubber exhaust hangers
