Relocation look this weekend
Hello future neighbors? We are taking a top down cruise this weekend to check out the following areas for possible relocation. Drain, Glide, Oakland, Roseburg, Cottage Grove, Eugene, Junction City, Marcola, Veneda, Pleasant Hill, etc...
I know just what u all need another Californian but at least I'm bringing the S with us. I was hoping to get some feedback on any of these areas good or bad. We are looking to semi-retire and build a home on 2+ acres. Would love to be in a small town outside a larger city of 100K - 200K. Would love to hear your input about the Eugene and Roseburg areas. Likes, dislikes and things to consider.
Anyway if anyone sees a Spa S2000 with personalized Cal plates cruising around give us a wave or better yet wave us over and let us buy you a cold drink. We are also interesting in meeting for lunch or cocktails if anyone's interested. We are staying at the Valley River Inn in Eugene Sat and Sunday nights. Any info on the hotel? Seemed like a nice place. Well thanks in advance for any and all advice. By the way do you get the chance to drive top down at all in the late fall, winter, and early spring or are we pretty much limited to summer?
Thanks
Oregon really only has a few towns that are that size:
Portland (2 mil?)
Salem (200k?)
Eugene (150k?)
Bend (150k?)
Greater Medford (100k? mayyybe)
Roseburg is small (25k ish) and backwoodsy. If you live in Roseburg and want culture, you go to Eugene. Similarly, if you want culture, you live in or around Eugene or Portland. Period.
Pretty much anything in the Willamette valley is near Salem, Eugene or Portland. And the Valley River Inn is resaonably nice, IIRC.

I can't help you, as my wife and I moved here only two years ago, and we really only know the area around Portland. But Oregon welcomed us warmly (we really do love it here), and I'm sure you'll feel likewise. It's a great state. I've got grad. school classmates down in Ashland, and they feel very much at home there, but it's quite a bit smaller/slower. And while I enjoy the less frenetic pace of Portland (as compared, say, to any of the other medium-sized cities where I've lived), it's about as quiet a town as I'd prefer. Good luck with your search and welcome. Come to PIR for a track event -- very safe, easy to drive at 7/10ths, very difficult to get in a fast lap.

small town outside a larger city...hmmm... Sandy or boring? Not sure if you were considering living up closer to portland but sandy and boring are about 20-25 minutes up mount hood, about 45-55 minutes from downtown portland. My parents did just what you are talking about in boring. They build a house on a few acres for semi-retirement. That just popped in my head with what you were describing
Anyways, good luck with your search
