With a couple of guys 30 minutes should be no problem I did my spring swap(which takes a little more work) all by myself in about two hours. If I would have had four jack stands it would have been faster but I only had two

yep, 4 jack stands, and air tools make it a piece of cake. How necessary are axle spacers? I haven't read up on them much.

For an AP1 I would say pretty necessary but you will hear different from others. They are pretty cheap and if it saves more costly repairs later down the road I say go for it

I think the majority will say you need them. Like Brandon said it's not that much compared to what you'll pay if something goes wrong. I'd say read the GB thread with Motorklasse's spacers. I found that most informational of threads regarding the spacers.
