This may be one of those situations where not asking is in your legal interest. Then, you only have the language of your policy at issue (as opposed to a note in your file that says you've actually been told by a representative that coverage will be denied). I've never asked my company about this issue under the belief that I'm not engaging in racing/competition because I'm attending events specifically labled "driver education" by the event organizers and which are intended to help develop the sorts of skills that insurance companies should be grateful for my possessing. But it is a gray area, and you should be aware that cars do leave the track on flatbeds pretty regularly. Most times, the cause is too much testesterone (aggressive overdriving) or inexperience or both. That said, I know lots of skilled drivers -- including guys who actually think its okay to have an off-track excursion (which I don't) -- who've never suffered any damage to their cars despite doing a lot of events. And PIR is a very safe track, provided you don't push it in the very back stretch of track, particularly coming onto the front straight. But again, YMMV, and you should be aware of the risks.

I asked my State Farm agent, specific to the BMW ACA "Drivers Education" event on 5/26 @ PIR, and she said that I would be covered.

If anyone's so inclined, there's still space at the Porsche Club events tomorrow and Sunday (see a separate thread in this forum), and the weather is supposed to be great this weekend.

Same response from my State Farm agent. With State Farm, "Driver Education (DE)" events are covered... other track events are not.

Brad... glad to see you've not left the "community", and good to hear from you. Had wondered if you were still a S2K owner, or if you moved on to something else... adding to the of 27, 28, 29 (?) cars on your "headboard." Don't be a stranger. If you're free this Sunday, join me, Christopher, and Marcus from the local S2K community at PIR... things get underway shortly after Noon, with late registration and tech inspection beginning at 11 AM.
