Thumbs up Time to plan some drives!

Hey guys,

Larry and I are working on getting some drives together for the 2007 season. I have been working on getting all the details together for these drives but I am having a hard time with the Beach drive. I did not go on it this last year so I am unsure what you guys did and if it was successful or not.

I would like help with these questions:

1. What city would you want to go to?
Seaside~ 1 hour and 45 minutes
Lincoln city~ 2 hours and 45 minutes
Cannon Beach~ 1 hour and 30 minutes

2. How many of you would be interested in staying over night at the beach?
(I will look into Hotel deals if we have enough people interested)

3. Does anyone know of good places to eat in any of these cities that can handle the parking? (It can be a short walking distance from where we park)

If you guys have any comments or questions, well, post em' up

Also, if you have any drive location ideas please let me or Larry know

Thanks,

Larry
and
Brandon

I don't know the area, but am interested in drives starting in the spring. I hope to make it over for at least one if not a couple of them. Sorry I can't be of any help in planning them, but I sure can help enjoy them.

Yeah, give me some time, I'll hit you up later with info re: Astoria drive so you can see where we went, and the high/low spots.

I don't mind planning some drives at all, there's a ton of places I've never been in Oregon and would like to go. I'm pretty slammed at work these days though, so It'll take me a while to figure out where we're goin'.

the Astoria drive was probably my favorite of them all from this last year. The roads are top notch and we had a nice pace without getting out of hand

The only problem we had with the Astoria drive was that in town Astoria was hard to get through with all of us. If we could find a better place (more parking) to eat it would be great. I liked the pub we went to but it was tough for parking. I guess it all depends on how many we have for the drive

The beach drive is the one I am having a hard time with. Holly(my wife) and I will be staying over night at the beach for sure. I am just having a hard time finding a good place to eat. I prefer Cannon Beach and Lincoln City but Seaside is fine too

Thanks Matt

What kind of food are you looking for?

When down at the coast it is always a safe bet to eat at a Moe's. My wife and I always eat there at least once a trip, and I am not a seafood fan. They have a good selection so anyone can get something to eat that they like. There is a Moe's on the south end of Lincoln City.

As far as Astoria, as long as we stay on the main street through town and not take any $hi# a$$ side streets, getting through town is pretty simple. Now that we know where the Rouge Ale House is and know that there is parking inside the building as well, I would like to do that drive again.

One other option is going to Newport Bay and hitting the Rouge Ale House on the south side of the bay. It has massive amounts of parking (for boat trailers and motorhomes and the like), the one draw back is that you are spending a lot of time on the 101 and it can be a bit cramped.

Brandon, are you going to set up a trip to Redmond? Lets make it a weekend and hit Crater Lake (my first suggestion when I joined the group this past summer).

Doug
