Time to plan some drives!
Are you going to set up a trip to Redmond? Lets make it a weekend and hit Crater Lake (my first suggestion when I joined the group this past summer).
Hi Doug,
We have talked a lot about a Crater Lake drive. At this time we are leaning toward a Crater Lake ONLY drive and then a separate drive to Redmond where we would spend the weekend together doing some rafting, horseback riding, etc. before heading back to Portland.
Here is the problem with a Redmond/Crater Lake drive: It requires 3 days of commitment and 2 overnight stays. With family and work commitments, many of us will not be able to do that. Here is the Redmond + Crater Lake scenario :
FRIDAY -
Leave Portland @ 6:00 pm (this could be a problem for those who live on the West side on a Friday night)
Arrive Redmond @ 9:00 pm
Overnight in Redmond
SATURDAY -
Leave Redmond @ 9:00 am
Arrive Crater Lake at 11:30 am
Lunch at Crater Lake

What kind of food are you looking for?
When down at the coast it is always a safe bet to eat at a Moe's. My wife and I always eat there at least once a trip, and I am not a seafood fan. They have a good selection so anyone can get something to eat that they like. There is a Moe's on the south end of Lincoln City.
As far as Astoria, as long as we stay on the main street through town and not take any $hi# a$$ side streets, getting through town is pretty simple. Now that we know where the Rouge Ale House is and know that there is parking inside the building as well, I would like to do that drive again.
One other option is going to Newport Bay and hitting the Rouge Ale House on the south side of the bay. It has massive amounts of parking (for boat trailers and motorhomes and the like), the one draw back is that you are spending a lot of time on the 101 and it can be a bit cramped.

with you about Astoria. I had no problems with the drive at all. It was a blast and the food was good at the Ale House
Doug, if you want to work out some details on a possible Newport Bay drive that would be great
Yes, I will be planning a Redmond trip but I am not sure it will include the drive to Crater Lake. Unless there are a lot of folks who would be interested in a three day trip I will try to keep it to a two day trip. There is a great Hotel here in Redmond that is nice and pretty cheap. I also have two guest rooms and a bonus room with a futon so if anyone wants to stay with me and not have to pay for a hotel the offer is there
I would still like to do a Crater Lake drive this year as well. It will be a trip seperate from the Redmond trip more than likely
