Today we did "one of those things to do before I die..." Go on a parasail in Hawaii.
We made our reservations and showed up at the "office" on the beach at Kaanapali on Maui:
Our tow boat was awaiting in the water:
We took off and rode along the shore for a while. Then, after getting into our harnesses, we found ourselves standing on the launch platform looking down into the boat:
Then, without warning, we were off:
The view from our extended perch was amazing:
Of course at one point, the captain has to pretend to drop you unceremoniously into the water:
After he has had his fun, it is back up to full height:
The view of Lahaina was breathtaking from up there:
The ride is fun and very quiet - you are far from the boat and hear very little wind noise since the sail is just behind you. It is a little eerie!
Before you know it, the ride is over. They winch you in:
and you make a soft touchdown on the deck below:
What a rush! Definitely worth doing!
Now it's on to the next adventure..... :exitright:
Looks like you guys are having a blast! But, now that I have seen the pictures and can sense the stillness and quiet, there is no need for me to do it!
Hope the rest of your trip has been amazing as well!
Did I forget to mention the rush when the captain releases the winch and you are launched straight up hundreds of feet?
Or when making a two-point aircraft-carrier type landing on a moving boat?
Actually for the totally foolhardy (you know who you are, Doug) you can opt for the parasail/snorkel ride. In this case they actually DO dunk you a few times - and smack your butt along the waves.
Looks like a lot of fun Larry. I've been to the Caribbean a couple times and wanted to Parasail, but both times it was canceled due to weather. I'll get there, it's on my bucket list.
