Default A train ride

Elizabeth and I had the great opportunity to go for a special train ride last weekend, as guests of Larry and Debbie.

You can find out more about the train at the official Union Pacific Steam website.

http://www.up.com/aboutup/special_tr...am/index.shtml

The short version is, Union Pacific runs two steam locomotive powered trains for public relations and to pamper the execs. Last weekend they were headed west into Portland and we boarded just outside of Boise for a two day trip, include a bit of time up in the cab of the classic locomotive. This trip wasn't open to the public, but when they do sell tickets they start at about $300 per seat and increase by hundreds.

Thanks again L & D! I hope you're having fun at the rodeo

Hey Paul! We really enjoyed having you and Elizabeth along with us on the steam train.

The train has grown a bit since you were on it. We now have 18 cars.

Here we are heading up the Gorge last week:

And leaving The Dalles:

We spent 4 days in Pendleton at the Round-Up before heading east. Here we are storming out of Pendleton on Sunday morning:

We are currently in Boise heading eastward.

Thanks again for joining us!

Here are a couple of pictures of the two of you – this one is before our cab ride:

And this one is during the cab ride:

Those are some good shots. What's the car with the lump on top that isn't an observation dome?

It is a power car (generator) for the rest of the train.

Today we traveled from Boise to Pocatello. Yes, we even passed right through Kuna, Idaho, but didn't see any black S2000s.

Debbie and I rode in the locomotive cab most of the morning and early afternoon.

Here we are leaving Nampa:

In the cab:

Leaving Glenn's Ferry:

It was a beautiful, sunny day and we had a great time. Heading home tomorrow to face reality!
