Just registered and made reservation for room at Fontana Village. Looking at leaving Wed. and getting hotel room someplace near Atlanta. Then finish drive on Thursday morning. Maybe some of us can go up at the same time.
The Spanish Navigator and I did this same trip last Spring. We stopped just South of Atlanta. If I did the trip again, I would stop outside the Northeast part of the city, maybe midway between Atlanta and Gainesville. Be care about avoiding Atlanta's rush hour traffic in the morning. There are some pretty long traffic lines during the morning commute. Plus, if you have time, there are some lovely roads between Gainesville and Fontana. I nice side trip would be up Brasstown Bald. It's one of the last climbs that bike riders used to make on the Tour de Georgia. Save enough time to stretch you legs by walking up to the observation booth at the top of the mount. You'll go through the National Forest in Northern Geogia, and there are some very scenic stops along the way.

I am not making it this year...it's the same weekend as St. Anthony's. I'm really disappointed that I can't be there.
Sorry you won't be there. I have the martini kit restocked and ready to go

Where are you taking the kayak lesson. I have done several advanced and expert clinics with Nantahala Outdoor Center. Usually top notch instructors. Have Fun

Well there's always the fall. Then again I'm thinking about doing the MiamiMan Half Iron Triathlon, and if I do that there won't be any time for the Dragon. Nancy has expressed an interest in going to the Florida Supermeet. Will you and your Martini kit be there?

We're actually doing it on the Chattooga which is a little south of the Dragon. I've heard good things about NOC before too but we're going with Wildwater Ltd. Last year we did the advanced trip in the raft on the Cheoahwith them and I've rafted the Chattooga before with them too. Discounts for return visits..LOL. I was told that they don't do 1-day beginner kayaking clinics on the Nantahala because it's too swift. I don't know what NOC offers though.
