Default Yet another "Visiting Orlando" thread

My bf and I are planning a road trip to Orlando (not in the Ss unfortunately) in December to visit his familia. What are some things to do in the surrounding area that don't cost a fortune and don't involve theme parks and a bajillion screaming kids? Any cool sites to see or places to see wildlife in the wild? Any local s2k meets going down towards the end of the year that we could crash? This section seems kinda dead.

Don't stay at the Disney resorts. Highly overpriced. You can visit the east coast beaches or the west coast beaches in about 1-1.5 hours from Orlando.
I'd recommend the Omni Championsgate resort- a little south of Disney and about 20-30 mins to downtown Orlando.

What do you want to do in Orlando?

We have a place to stay already. Just looking for fun things to do and cool places to go instead of sitting on our asses at his sister's house doing nothing (or home improvement projects like last time) the whole time we're there. Last time we went to Animal Kingdom, visited CFT, and rode one of those airboats on some lake.

You could do a day trip to the St Petersburg area. Kennedy Space Center. I'll think of more-but what types of fun stuff do you like to do?

Google things to do in Orlando.

There is a lot of things to do depending on your interests and if you are willing to drive.

There is the monthly S2k meet on the last Saturday of the month also.

Def check the West Coast beaches too.
