Default Looking for a deal on tires

Hi,
Does anyone know where I could get a good deal on tires for my S2K in Ottawa? Any recommendations on the best brand/speed rating to get?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

What kind of tires are you looking for? Do you want good price for performance, ultimate dry performance, good rain tires, all out race tires? Are these OEM 16" rims? Are you on stock suspension?

I know a lot of questions, but there is no "best" tire, it all depends on how you use the car and what you can afford.

Talon Tire or TireTrends should have good prices, 1010 as well.

The ZE-512 is an All-season tire I wouldn't go there.

GPW03: You going to auto-x your car at all this year? I'd love to try out those RE-01R's on an S2000 at speed. Or maybe you'll go to the track. I tested the tires yesterday but it wasn't on a road car so it's hard to tell the diff.

I don't think I will auto x my car this year, but am hoping to get out to atleast 1 lapping event this summer. The RE-01R's are mounted on a set 18" SSR SP1's which I purchased from a member about a month or so ago, Bridgestone RE-01R's came with them. I would use my 16" OEM wheels for lapping.

Since we are on the topic of good performing tires, what would you guys recommend I mount on my 16" OEM wheels for track use? I would probably have to drive with them to get to the event, most likely the Shannonville event coming up, so I would need something that is streetable and will last a few sessions at the track, followed by the trip home. Any suggestions?

Tarcy, why not just run the RE-01R's ? They are amazing.

Have you tracked before? I know you have drag raced but a road course? If not I would just stick with street tires at first. If you have and you really want R's then Toyo RA-1 is the one.

I currently have Potenza S-02 tires with an 89W speed rating. I am on the stock suspension and 16" rims.

I am not looking for a racing tire, but I do want something that will provide a high performance ride without necessarily wearing out in a couple of months. I use the car to drive in dry or wet weather.

So far, I am considering the Potenza R-050A Pole Position, Toyo Tirevos and Pirelli P Zero Nero M&S. Someone also suggested Falken ZE-512 which were quite cheap (I know nothing about that brand).

In terms of where to buy the tires, I have contacted Frisby, Deals4Wheels and I have looked up some tires on 1010tires.com.

Any feedback on these tires and vendors? 1010Tires.com seems to have the best price, but I am wondering if it is worth the potential hassle of ordering on line?

Again, I appreciate the help.

Thanks
I really wouldn't worry about speed rating. Any high performance tire will have a high enough speed rating for street use. I would suggest a tire that has good rain performance, since you want longer tire life. The difference between ultimate and really good dry grip isn't that much, especially if it is for non-competition purposes. There is a significant difference in wet performance in tires, and for daily driving that's way more important from a safety and drivability point of view.

Go to tirerack.com. They have the most detailed tire reviews on performance tires, and probably have the biggest pool of customer reviews. They also break down the tires into classes so you can choose in various groups. I would suggest max. performance summer tire group. That group probably averages 15k - 25k km tire life. The extreme performance is a quasi-race tire which trades off tire life and wet performance for dry performance...something you probably don't want (RE-01R).

My first suggestion would be Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 205/55 16" front and 245/50 16" rears. It's not the exact correct sizes, but the tires have top notch wet performance, still has really good dry performance and is a reasonably priced. The sidewalls will be a little softer than SO2's (so turn in feel will be slower) but almost every other non Bridgestone or Michelin tire will be like that. Equivalent tires would be Bridgestone RE050A and Michelin PS2 (which don't have 16"), but a lot cheaper.
