what do you guys think of the younger crowd entering the s2000 domain (as per toronto discussion)

I know we are a pretty laid back crowd compared to the T.O. folk, but what are your thoughts?

Well it probably doesn't affect us AS much. We have far fewer folks that will join us since most don't even know this site exists (The Ottawa section). If they do, they are probably more into M&M meets hehehe not meats.... errrr you never know.

I understand what the T.O. guys are really worried about, if they go do a drive they don't want to have guys in the ditch. Neither do we, but since we do less drives and the groups are smaller it is more manageable.

As James points out, the meets are a large part of the concern, and while the atmosphere may be different in Ottawa, you guys are as always invited to the drives and events up here, and as James say, one bad move can really ruin a day.

Ottawa seems to be Toronto 3 years ago

I think less people owning S2k's = less chance for idiots owning them. We have a good group of people up here in Ottawa S2k but there will be more chance for someone younger and a little more daring to own as the price drops!

There is less of a "car culture" here, so I figure less people with the $ or desire to pimp their ride for mad props. (How's that for kid lingo). Mostly just see rediculous exhausts. I think there are probably more sleepers around, whose owners are more likely have at least some common sense.

We're probably less likely to get wannabe's now anyway since a S2000 is not the new cool car to have anymore. Tuner mags are showing 350Z's, Neon SRT4's etc. now. My guess is that new buyers want the car for the car and not the image.

We are lucky here. Pretty much everyone here knows their limits and don't do stupid stuff, especially on group drives. Of course that didn't stop me from getting light on Tracey Road and getting that tire squealling moment or driving through that red light when giving the tour to Doug

lol, i wish i could have seen that.

I think kids think that s2000's are still too far out of reach, despite they're lower prices on autotrader.

As for myself, I'm never happy with what I have. That's my nature. I buy stuff for my car to make me feel happy. Hell, up here in petawawa, kids don't know the difference between Volk Racing and APC.....so I'm obviously not modding to impress the locals.

I buy my 2 car mags per month (SCC and Superstreet) and I'm always looking on the net for a deal. But that doesn't make me some rich kid who has nothing better to do with my money. I work damn hard for it, and I'm gonna treat myself once in a while.

I was really, really impressed with the crowd we had that one polish and drive day. All mature guys, with homes, jobs etc. Sure, we drove a little spiritedly at times, but we weren't zipping around the 417 flashing our hazards everywhere. I can't wait to do it again this summer on numerous occasions. And I'm looking forward to seeing what 255 tires feel like

I've noticed that rich people in Ottawa here especially where I live in the Glebe don't give a rat's ass about what they drive. It's not like Vancouver or Toronto where people seem to take a more spirited interest in what they drive!

We should start doing some planning for a drive for this summer. Simon you have to come do the Adirondacks with us dude. You would love the roads down there.

We should also do a drive just north of Kingston area. There are good roads there also, and a little closer to everyone.

And I swear, I'll get more of you guys autocrossing or at least trying Shannonville or Calabogie. No competition just driving as fast for your comfort level with no worries about the stuff that can happen on the street.
