Ottawa point of view

I've noticed that rich people in Ottawa here especially where I live in the Glebe don't give a rat's ass about what they drive. It's not like Vancouver or Toronto where people seem to take a more spirited interest in what they drive!
We should start doing some planning for a drive for this summer. Simon you have to come do the Adirondacks with us dude. You would love the roads down there.

the thing that I noticed a fair bit when I moved from Ottawa to Toronto was the comfort that ppl in Toronto have with taking on massive amounts of leverage.
Perhaps it speaks to the conservatism of Ottawa, but to me there seems to be a big difference between the two cities with the average debt a similarly employed person seems willing to take on. And it goes well beyond housing.

I work in the mortgage business here in Ottawa and deal with a lot of clients from Toronto and from Ottawa and both cities are quite different in terms of how much debt people think is acceptable. Also like Hapa has mentioned, most people in Ottawa don't drive outrageous vehicles even if they are super rich. I know this is a generalization but I see this kind of stuff everyday at work when underwriting mortgages for clients.

what do you guys think of the younger crowd entering the s2000 domain (as per toronto discussion)
I know we are a pretty laid back crowd compared to the T.O. folk, but what are your thoughts?

The younger people I have seen come into our group are here for a short period of time and then seem to fade away. I suspect some of it is because they are not into car clubs and I also suspect some of it is the fact that we are not seen as entertaining; I mean after all we go for nice drives, we get together to help each other on repairs or maintenance, we gather at a local drinking hole for beer and dinner, we even get together during the winter for the famous Upstate classic known as a Beer & Breakfast Run...
Silly kids, they just don't know what they are missing.
