You're spot on with the reason why Hawaii got pressured to raise the drinking age.
The grocery stores can sell hard liquor, but the sale of alcohol is illegal from 12 a.m. through 6 a.m.
Only bars with liquor commission licenses can dispense past 12 a.m. for consumption on premises only. Most bars are limited to 2 a.m., but if they have a special "cabaret" license, they can stay open til 4 a.m. (there are only a handful of bars with this license). If you want liquor between 4 - 6 a.m. you're SOL

 

I seem to vaguely remember a Korean bar that was serving a few friends and I drinks until at least 4:00am. I don't remember how we made it home...

Then again, I'm old enough to have seen the show at the Stoplight Tavern! It wasn't all that sexy, but it was pretty amazing. Picture lighting a cigar and then blowing smoke rings... without using your mouth.

oh man... I could not believe how "talented" some of those chicks were...

Last time I was there was in the early - mid- 80's... took buddy of mine there (we were attending a company meeting) and it just blew his mind.
