it's all about partnerships and if honda's going to put their name behind it, then it's all honda to me.

kinda like how you guys blame microsoft for everything when in fact most of this stuff is caused by third party vendors. jerry?

anways, ray, you think it's pretty much get the alternator replaced? how common of an issue is this in cars? never heard of it and doing a search here... zero hits.

neither. it's all a jumbled mess. we as consumers settle on services/products every single day.

the higher u go up in the complexity scale, the more likely you're going to face problems.

i had a recent experience with the Treo 650 by Palm. Nice, but what an unstable piece of $600 crap.

now i use the sidekick II. can't install crap on it. simpler. just straight up works and works well. love it. not as many features as a treo 650, but at least hte features i really really want work reliably.

ALTERNATOR NO!!!! it's like $400 plus one hour labor at honda for me.

BTW, that's exactly what I'm suggesting ... it's not as straight forward as just blaming Honda (as you were doing) .....

I also tend to think that if the only symptom is a blinking dash and the voltage tested good, then the problem is likely the dash and not the alternator.

But there are more sophisticated alternator tests available than just the voltage. There are basically four things that can go wrong with the alternator. The coils (rare). The voltage regulator. The rectifier. Or the belt that drives it. You can look at the belt yourself, and they can test for the other stuff without removing the alternator.

good point. i did think that an alternator replacement may not be the be all end all for sure. believe me i know about suprises or at least setting level of expectation in any type of engagement including car fixes.

and i understand ray's point. i'm sure he wants to get a to a point where i lay some or a lot of the blame on msft about the freezes etc... but so much of it is user error as well whereas with a car.. you really can't mess too much with it yourself. you can mess it up by driving the crap out of it and treating it poorly, but i do neither of those things.

...... and is this a chronic problem with Honda (S2000) or a fluke one out of a million? Your search turned up how many occurrences of this "problem"?

Don't get me wrong, I'm the last guy to stick up for Honda but please ....
