Default Axle Click

Hey gang,
I have had the "axle click" for a few months now and had no idea what it was. I heard about it this morning and searched and figured out it's the axle bolts.

I also found a TSB with this addressed.
My Q: Can I still get a TSB done to my MY02? If not, what is involved? Do I just retorque something, or do I need to replace/regrease/whatever some parts?

Any advice will be appreciated. It doesn't sound/feel threatening, but it sure is annoying. Can this lead to a bigger problem?

You need a large torque wrench, some axle grease, and a chopstick. Shouldn't take you five minutes to do yourself.

Cool. Do I do both sides, or just passenger side?

I will search to find the right bolts; I haven't worked with the axles since my differential swap 3 years ago.

Thanks!

I'd do both as this is basically preventative maintence. If you let this issue go long enough, it may accelerate wear on the wheel bearings. Usually the guys with the clicks fix the click. Then they get the ginding noise. After replacing the bearing they get the rumble. The cycle finishes with a new CV joint.

So yeah, you should "fix" both sides. This is a no-brainer. I'd spend more time explaining how to do it than it would take to do. (Which is probably true ninty-nine percent of the time but you get the gist)

I think you should focus on sourcing the rather large socket and a torque wrench that is accurate to 186ft/lbs. I have the socket at home, but it can be tough to catch me at an available time. Unfortunately, I don't have a torque wrench large enough to help you out right now otherwise we could bang it out this weekend.

Are you in town?
If so, come over this weekend ..... and we'll only do the side that needs it (if it ain't broke, don't fuq with it)

...... and as far as it having anything remotely to do with CV joints (nothing to do with bearing either for that matter)!

You've seen at least one car where the axle nut started backing off on its own. That will most definitely lead to complications.

I got a 1/2 torque wrench up to 250 ft lbs if you need.

thanks again. i am 99% sure it's from the right side. but a passenger thought it came from the left side. pfft
