Yeah, I think it would be pretty interesting to talk to the guy. Just to find out what kind of person would do this kind of thing to themself.

The Times article doesn't really talk about why the obsession to become like his totem. What would it achieve?

VMOM must have been at the tattoo convention last weekend in Seattle.

Apparently, he was there too and that even the tattoo people thought he was nuts.
