Default early proformance track dates

Proformance has their 2005 schedule up. They have some early lapping days scheduled as date TBD in Feb and March. Donna says they are looking for a weather window -- if they get it they will send out messages to a list of interested people. If at least 20 people sign up, the date is on.

Also, PR is repaving and modifying T9. Seems like they felt there were too many serious incidents there last year. Supposedly the cone-on-a-stick configuration will be altered to perhaps be a little more forgiving of mistakes.

Thanks Mike.

Guess I'll have to get my a$$ in gear and get started on the 2005 track schedule.

Here's what I know, but it includes a lot of the California tracks. This was put together by a group of track-junkies loosely organized under the moniker, Carpenter's Union.

Way to go! Yeah, I've met some of the Carpenter's Union.

BTW, PSRBMWCCA does not allow S2000s unless you have a five or six point restraint for criver and passenger. Roll hoop is accepted, but only with harness. (Seems like a particularly stupid place to draw the line, but it's due to their national insurance regs.)

Spokane (Inland Empire) BMWCCA still allows stock S2000, AFAIK.

Requiring a harness with the stock roll hoops actually seems more likely to cause a serious accident that requiring a rollbar with the stock belts, but that's okay. I did a private track day at Spokane with these guys, and really liked them. It's nice to run with all advanced drivers in an open lapping format.

Thanks, Mike. I haven't been on a track since the slippery day in November at PR, so I'm raring to go. I need to buy track tires; I'd love to get the new Azenis, but I don't know when they'll be out. Has anyone here heard? Failing that, what would be a good track tire, allowing me to drive to the track (and maybe even to Portland or Spokane) without killing the tires, but still being better than stock street tires on the track?

I run Khumo MXs on the street and track and find them to be a good compromise. Tons of grip. Not frightening in the wet. And reasonably cheap, too. I'm too lazy to swap wheels/tires for the track -- and have yet to figure out how to haul racetires to the track in the sizes I want to run. The MXs seem a nice compromise.

Depends on how much grip you want.

The Kumho MX is VERY similar to the current Falken. However it is a street tire, so it's less grip but good wear. Both are amazing street tires for the $.

The Toyo RA1 is a great all purpose track tire. When shaved, it is a pretty good, long wearing R compound. Full tread, it's a great wet weather tire, too. Not the grippiest, though - won't hold a candle to the "real" r-compounds.

The Kumho Victoracer V700 has much, much better grip than the Toyo, but will wear a bit faster. Similar to a Toyo RA1, you'll get your best dry performance if you shave it, but it is a better wet tire with tread. Bonus is that the shaved Kumho is a decently competitive autocross tire, too... (I won a National Championship on them in 2003...)

The Kumho Ecsta V700 (not to be confused with the new Ecsta V710) is also a decent tire, but wants quite a bit of camber. We corded a set on a relatively light Integra Type R in ONE autocross event...

The other R compounds that are DOT approved I would NOT recommend for street driving (the new Kumho Ecsta V710, all Hoosier). But these kick butt in terms of grip.
