Default Engine Check Light--Help Please

I got into a bit of a "spirited" driving situation on the ride home tonight, with a Lexus GS300. During the course of that contest, my engine check light came on. This light has never come on before. The car felt fine, sounded fine, engine temp was normal, however, my gas was very low (2 bars). I continued to drive home some 5 miles or so. I thought that perhaps this might have been caused by the low gas and perhaps some vapor as I know that the gas cap can cause this light to come on. I tightened the cap extra and did several turn-off, turn-on events with the car. No luck. I took the car and filled it up making sure that the cap was way past 3 clicks. Still no luck. I read in the book that it may take several driving "trips" before it turns off, however, I have no idea how long a "trip" is.

Has anyone had or heard about this problem? I am thinking that if it is still on tomorrow that I'll have to take it in to Honda.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Thanks.

That's what you get for messing around with a GS300. Just kidding. Take it in. I'm sure it's all good.

Reset the ECU (see the FAQ for which fuse to pull). If something's really wrong, the Check Engine Light will come back on.

Good luck,

Ted

No problemo. Just keep an eye out for anything unusual for the next day or two.

Bad news. The light came on again the first time I hit VTEC on the way to work this morning. I am scheduled to bring it in to Honda of Bellevue, tomorrow morning. They feel they probably will need most of the day with it.

Bad luck always comes in groups. I knew when we came back from vacation last week to find our other car had been stolen and damaged, that something else was also going to go wrong. Unreal...

Doh!

You've already checked the oil level, right?

Go straight to Rick Massei and tell him you're a friend of mine. He will understand your S2000 service needs.

Thanks for the support, guys. WRS2K, unfortunately I didn't see the replies until after dropping the car off this morning. If there is a next time, I'll look this person up.

It always amazes me when they as me if I want the car washed. I look at them with a mixture of horror and disgust. They usually get a kick out of this. The person today, quick to cover for asking such an outrageous question, told me that several owners have had the carwash done. To me, that is grounds to repo the car.

As I drove away in the courtesy van, I watched my car being taken back for the operation. I felt like I was leaving my child at the doctor's office.

I'll let everyone know the outcome later today when I get it back.
