Scott,

I think you treat the car better than you treat yourself, dog! That ain't right.

Rick Massei has always gone above and beyond the call of duty for me. Just be the nice guy that you are and he'll do for you as he did for me.

Good luck. No worries. Just a hunk of metal that can be bought again and again and again.

Honda called not more than an hour after having taken in the car. The error code they found indicated it was the throttle body. They found no problems with the throttle body, but they are going to replace anyway. The part should be in early next week. I went and got the car back (not leaving it there a minute longer than necessary).

For anyone who cares, here are the notes:

"Pulled code P0122 TP sensor low voltage tested with PGM tester closed throttle TP 5.4% wide open throttle TP 90%. These are normal no cut outs were observed on the test drive or when testing in the shop. Checked connector fit: OK called techline ref:#1057702 they said to replace the throttle body which includes the TP sensor if the car recodes."

Perhaps the throttle cable was sticking or stretching.

What? and how does that matter to the TPS? Does it have ESP?

When was the last time a mechanic had a buddy sitting in the driver's seat pushing on the throttle to grab voltage readings off the throttle body? I bet the mechanic just actuated the throttle from the engine compartment which would negate the throttle cable factor. Why in the world would that cause a check engine light? Hell if I know.

Whatever they did, the light has yet to come on again. When I reset, it came on again during the very next drive. I guess I'll let them replace the TB anyway, since you never know.

That code (P0122) is telling them the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) is bad (intermittently in your case). If the TB replacement (which is the only way Honda sells the TPS, as an assembly w/ the entire Throttle Body) doesn't cure the problem long term then the ECM is suspect or the wiring between the TPS and ECM is bad. Pretty straight forward either way so don't sweat it, they just need to go through the steps in a systematic fashion to isolate the problem (intermittent problems sometime take a few steps to nail).

BTW, I have no idea what Jerry's been smoking
