Default Engine Rattle

Hey guys, I have already done some major digging in the "under the hood" forum and it looks like a the heat shield rubbing causes a weird rattling noise in low gears and low RPMs. I wanted to know if any of you have experienced this. I believe this is my issue currently and wanted to know if anyone had any suggestions. I have not taken it in yewt just wanted to get all the info to see i there is a simple fix or if a new shield is required. Overall the 03 with 52k has been great and this is my first real issue. Any advice is always appreciated guys.

thanks

Are you for sure it's not the timing chain tensioner? Sounds just like a rattle and is EZ to fix (not cheap but EZ)

I know wingle69 has the timing chain deal going on but I always forget to tell him

well now, that's a nice way to tell me Ray. LOL so how would we go about fixing this and what is involved?

Funny thing is, I've heard "noises" before I put on the xhaust and I've taken it to a couple of shops before and they BOTH said nothing was wrong. They were just in it to sell me parts I guess. LOL

Btw I took out my heat shield for shits-n-giggles as well once I heard the noise and it didn't solve the whole noise thing either. I'm just amazed that Ray knew what the problem would be without even popping my hood (if ya know what I mean) LOL

Its possible its the timing chain tensioner. At least from forum searching the most common issue seemed to be the heat shield and people's description of the noise seemed to match mine. But if I knew then I wouldn't be asking right..?haha. Its beyond me.

i too get some rattle sound/buzzing sound coming from my car on the passanger side under the dash. it always happens in 2nd and 3rd when slowing down from 4000 to 3000 rpm... im thinking it might be the heat shield...?

its starting to get to me... anyone know what it might be...? it only happens when im slowing down. and mostly in 2-3 and sometimes a little in 4th...?

I think I might have the same issue. I dont have heat shields (heat wrapped dc header instead ) and I notice the rattling noise when coming to a stop. Why such a pricy fix? Man hours? Pricey part?

This is the "clutch buzz".

Does no harm, except to your sanity.
