So have folks tried driving around w/o front plates on? It really makes the car look much better. What's the risk if you get caught w/o them on?

At least three of us at the meet on Saturday didn't have front plates (check the pictures).

I've been running without for almost a year, driving every day. One time when I parked in a truck load spot on a Saturday (I thought it was Sunday - oops) I got a ticket and they tacked on "Improper Display of License" or whatever. It was $28 extra or so.

On the other hand, I had a friend who drove a Firebird without a front plate for four months and got pulled over three times for it. He gave up and put the plate back on.

For me it's been well worth the risk; the S2000 looks so much better; plus, I can't have anything blocking air to the engine .

LOL. I had just asked the same question to a friend, and here is the information we came up with.

http://www.wa.gov/dol/vehicles/tr-backtabs.htm

Starting in 2001, when you go to renew your tabs, they will give you one new tab, which should go on the back plate. You are still required to keep the front plate on your car.

I agree, it does look nice w/o the front plate. Anyone know of other states that don't require the front plate

I used to live in North Carolina. They only issue a plate for the rear. The DMV actually sells a variety of vanity plates for the front. I think it is a money making proposition for the DMV!

I'm in the Spa Yellow S2K. I don't want to give any patrol car another reason to pull me over. I attract enough attention already. I agree, the car looks so much better without that rectangle messing up the lines.

My 56 GMC pickup has a collector plate on the rear
only ...legal for 1956. I have been pulled over twice
just to look at the truck. With 487 HP ...I don't like
being pulled over.
The s2000 looks better and runs better without it but
I'm trying to avoid the law guys.

Been to the other side of 160 mph ...

Regards

I've been pulled over before for not having a front plate. It's a $70 fine, but shouldn't count as any points on your insurance. I took the ticket to the arbitrator and explained that it's fixed now and he reduced it to something like $20 to cover the paperwork. This happened a couple blocks from my house so I wasn't too pleased at how my tax dollars were being used!
