Lake Tahoe road trip
Long weekend roadtrip!
Itinerary in brief:
June 5: Drive to Salem, OR (knock off the boring part) on your own.
June 6: Meet up, drive from Salem to Tahoe, avoiding I-5 like the plague. Eat, drink, gamble, etc in Tahoe.
June 7: Scenic drives around Tahoe. Boat cruise on Tahoe. Eat, drink, gamble some more.
June 8: Head back to Seattle.
Note: The driving to Tahoe will be semi-scenic but mostly at a reasonable pace (i.e. so I don't get arrested and violated in prison). We'll stop for a late lunch and try to get to Tahoe for a late dinner. Salem to Tahoe is ~600 miles, so it will be a long day.
The driving back will be mostly on your own, so you can do whatever you want. I'll head back on I5 so it'll be boring as snot but reasonably fast. Google shows it as 13 hours. If you want to take an extra day, you could head over to the cost and do 101. and get back Monday afternoon.
Details:
Salem hotel:
Holiday Inn Express
890 Hawthorne Ave SE
Salem, OR 97301
Rates are a rather unimpressive $122 for the night. Other than ghetto motels, there's not much cheaper.
Tahoe hotel:
Montbleu Resort
55 US Highway 50
Stateline, NV 89449
Rooms are about $400 for the weekend.
Friday plans: I'm shooting for 8pm. Check in, shower, dinner at del Soul in Montbleu (or something similarly easy, quick, etc). Drink, gamble, be merry.
Saturday plans:
- Recover from hangover, have brunch/lunch. Meet up around noon, earlier if we're ambitious (ha ha).
- Clockwise loop around the lake. Approximately 70 miles of driving, and I think about a dozen places to stop, take pictures, and generally be tourists.
- Do the Happy Hour cruise on the Woodwind II. If you don't like boats, or it's crappy out, we'll just drive the last 3 miles and have dinner. Optionally, we can start the drive earlier and go on an earlier cruise, which will be longer and warmer.
- Dinner at The Naked Fish.
- Drink, gamble, be merry.
Sunday:
- Brunch at Forest Buffet (the fancy one in Harrah's).
- Drive home.

I might meet up on the 7th. Otherwise, I have a concert on the 8th. I'm preemptively declaring flakiness.

Oh man. Too bad the SacS2KDays is set for two weeks after, that would be a great meet up. We will be in Sac during the weekend you will be in Tahoe, but not in the S. Anyone want to meet up at Tahoe Wabo (Vmom, I am calling you out to meet me at Sammy's place) on Saturday June 7th for dinner?
