Default In need of Engine help!

I am looking to see if anyone has replaced their valve stem seals on their s2000 in the Seattle/Bellevue area.

I have an 03 with 70,000 miles and I was thinking of pulling the head and taking it to a machine shop to rebuild but then i would have to have the short block resurfaced along with the head with a new metal head gasket and Arp head studs and I am leaving the engine NA so just looking to get the head back to spec with a valve adjustment and new seals. I have heard of people doing this with out removing the head and I am curious if anyone has done it around here who could help me.

I am willing to pay if you have done this before and I have a garage space i can use or i am willing to bring the car to you if you have tools. Please contact me at s2kmobbin9grand@live.com I am looking to do this soon.

Or if you can let me know of a mechanic looking for a side job , or a good repair shop that has done this on a s2000 I would appreciate it.

valve seals = valve cover and cam removal (not even head off the block)

what you're talking about = engine removal and total disassembly (resurface short block???)

seems over kill-ish ($200 or $300 vs. $2000 or $3000) .... unless I'm missing something here

Your not missing anything at all, I don't want to pull the head and I think its a huge over kill unless I was going to get a thicker metal head gasket to lower compression and turbo the car

I called the Honda dealership and they were the ones that told me the head had to be removed and then I read it doesn't have to be removed. I really have never had my car worked on by anyone else but this is something i have never done so would prefer to have it done right. I want to install new seals, do a valve adjustment, spark plugs, and a valve cover gasket. I was just hoping to find someone that has had this done or has done it.

The car still runs great, its just burning oil after the car is warmed up when I stop at a stop light and go a little puff of bluish smoke comes out, also every once in a while as i rev from 6k-9k.

Put on sunglasses, you won't see the puff of smoke.

Make sure the oil is full at the first of every month and pocket the 200-12000$$ you might otherwise spend, (12K for turbo fantasy). Oil is way cheaper that machine work. These motors use oil for a reason.

Mine smoked like a banshee for a while, stopped eventually, still runs fine with 130K and still going.

Yes,

I am having Honda on monday do a valve adjustment, then i was going do an oil change with Royal Purple and check it every week and see how it goes

I added some oil about a quart and it seems to be doing better in the last week. I will just see how it goes.

thanks for the feedback.

What weight and type of oil have you been using and how often do you change it? There are some things you may or may not be aware of that you can try to help limit some of the oil consumption/burning you are experiencing.

I have been using 10w 30 Mobile 1 full synthetic. I change every 2,500-3000 miles. Feel free to give me any info thanks guys.

When i first bought the car i used Valvoline synthetic but then switched to mobile one. Now i think i will try Royal Purple.
