Turns out I will have to replace my diff. I didn't even want to know how much they wanted for a new one. I will try and locate one online or at a wrecking yard.

found a diff at a wrecking yard in Kent. Reasonably priced $383 out the door with complete mounts

I finished up replacing the diff with one from a wrecking yard. Took it out for a short drive and it drives great and no more growl

What did you find at the wrecking yard? ap1 or ap2? How many miles? The ap2 is better, has a thicker more reinforced carrier bearing, which is where the typical failure occurs. ask me how I know, I'm on my 3rd

Either way that's a great deal, typical price is $500-700

Nice job Rich ..... did you have to give them the core back? If not , keep it as a spare, the bearings are pretty easy to change and it sounds like the Torsen is still in good working order.

No core was needed. So yeah I have a complete other diff. I'm thinking that possibly the LSD is bad. But regardless, it's still worth saving the carrrier and the rest of the parts. Maybe we can set up a time and day if you are available to take a look at the old one and see where the problem might be.

LSD is good since it passes my test ..... If you're going straight the LSD isn't doing anything so it's not the source of the noise. The reason I asked you to do the test is because a bad LSD can contaminate the oil and in turn screw up some of the bearings .... in this case, it seems one of the bearings went bad all on it's own which is not uncommon either. Now you've got a spare pumpkin with a good "diff" in it that just needs a new bearing. Sweet, since you know nothing about how the current diff lived it's first 59000 miles
