Hello!

I have a 2002 (Silver) with 33 k miles....(got it 3 months ago with 21 k miles) it's the greatest thing ever!

HOWEVER, small bummer: I have a persistent "check engine" light. It was intermittent for a few days, thought it was the gas cap, but now it is on constantly. A buddy of mine plugged in his ODB computer and we got the following code: P1456.....

A quick google search, much to my surprise, didn't come up with anything.

Does anyone know where I can find the ODB code meaning for Honda? (or, even better, does anyone know what this code means?)

DTC P1456 (EVAP control system leakage (fuel tank system) problem

Problem cause: The threads in the fuel fill pipe bind on the fuel fill cap.

Corrective action: Replace the fuel fill pipe.

I work at Honda so I can do a EVAP system w/ the Honda scan tool thing but for you, try to "remove the fuel fill cap, reinsert it, then tighten it. The cap should turn, without resistance, until it's O-ring touches the fuel fill pipe.
If the cap turns freely, you dont' have to bother about what I have just said above. If the cap binds or drags, then you need to repair it.

If it still set the code, you have to take your car to Honda to have them test for Internal Leaks.

I was able to reset the code with a buddy's OBD scanner (got to get one of those things....) and stop the madness by using my fingers around the outside of the gas cap to tighten it (to bypass the cap's clutch mechanism). On my way to grab a new gas cap......$25

 

new cap might not fix the problem long term ....... you might need the filler neck recall work.
Or you could just file down the threads near the end of the cap for clearance.
