Default Okay, I got the broken studs fixed today and

exactly do these things do? This is what I've always believed and feel free to correct me as I don't even remotely claim to be an expert. On a car with "hubcentric" wheels, the job of the lug nuts is to push the wheel against the hub allowing the weight of the car to bear down on the center area of the wheel. The hubcentric ring fills the void between the hub and the receiving area of the wheel. Without the ring in place, the weight of the car bears down on the studs rather than the hub. In addition, the rings also center the wheel to reduce vibration. Am I right or full of shit?

To be on the safe side, I'm not going to drive the S until I get a new ring and do a complete inspection of the other wheels. Fortunately for me, it's not my daily driver. West Hills Honda would not honor the warranty from the last repair because of the aftermarket wheels. Total cost with labor was $140. I'm greatful that I found this problem before it became a catastrophic failure that has the potential to be leathal and even more expensive. I don't know what it is like to have a wheel fall of my car and I don't want to find out.

I've been in a vehicle when that happened. Lucky for us we were on a residential street at the time, probably doing 20ish. We were in a Ford Bronco (the old kind, back when they had flat windshields and were fairly small little jeeps). I was in the back seat, and the back inside wheel came off while we were going around a corner. Dad held it together and stopped the car, but the wheel drum was toast. The wheel rolled away and we found it out in the weeds.

busted wheel studs aren't due to the missing ring

I called Jim @ the TireRack.

Had to buy two different rings though - one set for my SSRs and one set for my ASAs. (different materials / shapes )

They got here pretty quickly

Don't rush to judgment on something like that until all the facts are in.
