at the same time it's inane to claim that there's no risk associated with placing a sharp-edged steel object (license plate) on top of an explosive device (airbag).
Reminds me of a day I spend blowing up stumps with dynamite and ANFO. We were a looong way away from those stumps, but you never could tell what was going to happen. During one of the explosions, a big cloud of dust and stump and rock went up and came back down. Then seconds later, after it seemed everything else had come back down, something hit the ground behind us, with a loud crash. Scared the bejeebers out of us.

(And then there was the stump with the yellowjacket nest in it, but that's another story. The surviving yellowjackets sure were confused and annoyed....)

Maybe I'll just take my license plate off until I stop being lazy and get one of Ricks Plate Holders... lol

Wouldn't the licence plate be in front of the air bag, not on it? Have you seen an air bag go off? It should deploy faster than the plate would move back. This is seriously a stupid debate.

And yes some of my friends are test dummies...hahaha jp

It should, but will it? That's the point being made. You can't predict how an accident it going to happen, but you can take measures to mitigate the impact. If there's a *chance* that it could happen, why run the risk?

i noticed i got hassled when it was in the windshield but have not once been hassled for outright not having one.

if i get a ticket for it i'd pay it. but id also leave it off the car. its a choice i make. im willing to pay the consequence for it and since it doenst hurt anyone im fine with it. fair trade in my eyes.

if you get hit from behind, or end up hitting something backwards in a spin the plate could easily hit you.

figure going 65MPH+, hitting some water, spinning 180, hitting a wall at 60+ going backwards. you get hit in the face with a licence plate that is traveling 60MPH. at this point you are hoping that the bags don't also deploy, pushing the licence plate further into your skull.

my response would be to say thanks to the officer, and tell him to have a nice day. then go home and put the plate on the front of the car where it belongs.

Well, we agree on one thing anyway.

Darwinian selection at work!

I just love the frequent threads, where someone complains that he gets pulled over for breaking the law. Even when he didn't get a ticket.
