Default Rumor or fact?

I was going through some searches and forums and seeing that in some I have read that Honda mentioned the possibility of discontinuing the S2k in 06? or after?

Not sure if there's any truth to it, but thought i'd ask????

I'm still searching for an 04 Silverstone/blck so if you know of one please PM me.

thx,

David.

Yo dave,

If it was a fact, do you think you'd still be asking this question?

I can see them selling it a couple more years or longer like the NSX.

I can see them discontinuing it all together. I know sales are down since the release of the F22C. The car's been around for a while now.

Even with all the new cars out now in the same price segment, there still isn't a real competitor to the S2000. The new Boxster S, I'd argue even the regular model, is truly a better car than the S2000, but it still plays well above the $50K mark. The AWD monsters are aesthetically hard to swallow esp for the non-rally fan. The 350Z drop top is a porky pig.

Bottom line, don't put too much thought on whether they continue to sell or not. Shouldn't really influence your decision since no matter which way you slice it, cars are depreciating assets.

Focus your energies on picking up the car you want that makes you happy which shouldn't be too hard of a task.

heh.. Thanks, Yah I kinda figured, it's one of those things that NO MAtter how many times ya see it in the end, it doesn't matter, it's all about what's right for the given individual.

thanks for humoring me (as i should've typed flame suit on) for posting such a thought.

Again I agree with your logic and thoughts on the s2k as well as the principle of do what's best for what you want. so thanks!

I think half the fun is the research (although at some point the paralysis from analysis begins to set in and you realize you've done your homework, the car is solid, it's what you want and the search begins for finding one! (hence where I am now)....

On a slightly separate thread idea, what if much have most of you whom do the Track days & AutoX's have to maintain other than the usual suspects of Brake pads, Rotors & Tires?

anything on the "oops I forgot to tell you about list?"

Again thanks for the help... great to get the feedback

David.

hehe.. gotcha! crystal clear!

that's nice, considering that as "consumables" that shouldn't be tooo terribly pricey!

"assuming" that pricey is a releative term, but for the most part rotors and pads are just a couple hundred bucks. tires on the other hand that's another subject, but coming from the S4 I'm going to jump out on a limb here and guess they last a wee bit longer than the ones' on my S4...

(fingers crossed!)....

Lastly, other than the schedules listed at the top of the pages, any upcoming events/auto'xs or HDPE's coming up? I'd love to swing buy and see em' in action.

thx,

David.

you sound like an intelligent young lad so no problem man. glad to provide a thought or two for whatever they're worth.

i'm no track guy but i do have a sense for the pecking order here. ref these guys on the board to get S2000 insight into high speed (legal) fun:

RT - Knows his shit, but you kinda have to dig a bit to get at the good stuff

mikegarrison - somewhat of a new guy, but given that he's a aerospace engineer, he pays attention to detail and cuts out the BS. sees more track time than others given he's got no wifey and kids to take care of.

Jerrypeterson - RT is his role model. he's pretty rough on his cars and has a good insight or two, but beware... he's an alcohol abuser and you can't tell if he's typing sober or drunk

lig and ananda - these guys love to dodge cones. cool guys who aren't so much into parts knowledge. they just go out there, do their thang, and have fun. really nice guys.

bannanie - she and her husband are probably the most serious about cone dodging in the s2000 crowd. really cool people, but tends to get a little high on themselves as they shoudl since they've spent a lot of time and $$$ into auto-x.

pedalfaster - another auto-x junkie. don't know much about him other than he's good and loves to auto-x. he's great at breaking down what works and what doesn't on the courses. logical, even headed when it comes to giving opinions on what car's good/bad.

this should give u a good start.

There's an "invite only", private track day (all day lapping) at PR on 6/21. It's currently capped at 25 cars. The list is aimed for seasoned/"advanced" drivers. Let me know if you're intersted.

Mike, were you on the list? If not, you interested? What about you Ray?

Just a clarification... Ben, you forgot the smoking part too - as in car parts and the cigarettes. You still owe me for the 'bet you can't smoke a cigarette for a full lap of Laguna Seca' episode.

I'm kind of bummed because it sometimes feels like he forgot us!
