Invest in lenses - those hold up value well. You'll find that in most cases unless you have a very specific professional need, almost any body will do. The variation you get are in speed of auto focus and level of noise in the image at higher ISO settings. Resolution doesn't really matter beyond 5 Mp unless you plan on printing photos larger than 11x14. Once you get to 10Mp or so, the quality of lenses start coming into play.
