Tech Day
The torsion analogy makes perfect sense. I'm with you now.

Reduce the number of coils from 10 to 8 and see what happens to k.

But can you calculate how much the internal shear stress changed in Mike's springs, as a function of deflection? If the stress was increased significantly, the springs will eventually give out & the car will acquire a custom "slammed" look.
Two coils were cut off, one of them was inactive.
... According to my calculations it'll take until the next time Mike drives the car to Azteca for it to look like a chicano lowrider.*
*Assuming the springs are made of steel, and accounting for the delta in weight balance resulting from the modified badging forward of the front wheels.

What's wrong with you Engineers? In my hypothetical as well that spring calculator we/it clearly states "active/live coils" ......
why you guys even thinking about the dead ones ..... clearly we danger wired those and they're no longer an issue!
in addition, do the stink'n Freebody for the spring, it doesn't see a different load ............. that's like saying a shorter rope is going to break easier than a longer, otherwise identical one. I'm with you on the corner balance hair split though (and the badging), Mike is doomed!
