0-60 in 3.7 seconds is pretty impressive.
Salesguy told me track battery life was completely a function of mileage and it would last for a bit but it's hard to imagine it lasting at full power for very long. I really can't see buying any full on electric car except for a commuter car.
The Clarity is definitely intriguing.

If there were an all-electric commuting car available at the same quality and price as a base Civic, I would buy it.
I agree that, with the proper range, an all-electric commuter car could make sense. But not any sort of luxury or performance car, IMO.
Top Gear did an episode on the Tesla; they were terribly impressed right up until it pooped out most of the way through the first 30-minute session on the track (the time it takes to fully discharge is a function of both the ambient temperature--warm is bad--and the load). They then highlighted hydrogen-cell cars now beta-testing in California (where there are several hydrogen filling stations). The advantage is clear--it takes only the same amount of time to fill up with hydrogen as with gasoline, and gasoline stations are everywhere. It is hard to imagine a technology which will allow quick recharges or a Tesla battery in only a few minutes.
Of course, the Tesla folks could start circulating videos of the last moments of the Hindenburg....

While I agree with your overall point, Tesla asserts that Top Gear's battery problems were fabricated: http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/19/tesla-r...st-of-roadster/
