Keep in mind that Top Gear is an entertainment show, not a documentary.

While I agree with your overall point, Tesla asserts that Top Gear's battery problems were fabricated: http://www.autoblog.com/2008/12/19/tesla-r...st-of-roadster/
So even Tesla acknowledges that the car was almost out of juice that quickly.

It's certainly quite possible that Top Gear could be exaggerating, but even the Tesla folks in California told me that one 30 minute session is about all you can expect.

Until you can flog the car for a good while (which will require either much more storage capacity or the ability to recharge very quickly), it simply is not suited for use as a performance car. As is, the Tesla is a spectacular-looking commuter car that can go around corners real fast.

I think you missed the first part of my post.

I'm not arguing that all-electric power is a good solution for enthusiast vehicles at the moment. But I think it's lame that Top Gear said they ran out of juice when they didn't, even if they were close -- that's akin to saying you're close to pregnant or close to murdering someone.

Nah, I didn't miss your first part; I just don't really think it's horrible of Top Gear to have exaggerate slightly on this point.

Until you're the father of a daughter, perhaps it would be best if you didn't use "close to pregnant" in such a context. Close to having delivered, perhaps, but not close to pregnant.

Sending your daughter off to college seems to have gotten you a bit spooked, Mark.

Perhaps a bit at first. But elder daughter is now a first year graduate student, and younger daughter is now a junior in college (both at your old haunt), so I'm past it now. Just poking a bit of fun at as-yet-childless Steve as he conjures up "pregnant" so blithely.

0-60 in 3.7 seconds is pretty impressive.
I thought I read the Tesla was right on par with the Lotus at 4.7 sec 0-60

Do either of your daughters want to get pregnant? Maybe you would like to be a grandperent? If they are hot I may be able to help in some way
