... that is really funny that he was driving that way but I don't think that should have been the root cause of his rod/tunacan failure.

7500 RPM is below the red line. No big deal.

Total waste of gas to cruise the freeway in third gear, but it shouldn't be a problem for the engine.

The rod going out really does sound like an oil problem of some sort.

The level of sound must have been unbearable (for a normal person). I guess if the top is down it wouldn't be as bad.
