Default Wrongfully downshift

hey guys am i lucky or what? man i was so sad and worry.

I didnt just do this once, twice, but three times already on my 04 s2k i just bought.

Man i was driving on the highway and was driving at 80mph+ and was trying to downshift from 6 to 5 but DAMN..... i down shift to 3 and guess what happen, i guess you would know the answer to that......it went into redline right away and the car was roar, sounded like it was going to blow up and bogging like crazy.

I think i am fortunate that my car still runs fine after 3 times i have done this by accident.

I would think you know after the first time i would have drop my pistons/valves or blew my gasket not alone 3 times.

My car seems fine to me at idle and across the rpm range and vtec still engage right etc....

Can you tell what i would feel or symptoms of a blown head gasket, pistons, and valves.......???

Other than that my car is fine am i fortunate or what!!!! thank you lord ahha.

AP2s (04+) are a little more tolerant of this than AP1s. Don't make a habit of this. You can do damage that is not immediately obvious (car will still run -- for a while).

With an AP1, I would be suggesting that you pull the valve cover and inspect the valve retainers. With an AP2, I don't know.

I would be remiss if I didn't act the Dutch uncle and wonder why (i) you were driving 80+ on the public roads, and (ii) why you felt it was necessary to downshift at that speed. I agree that was a wrongful downshift; Karma's a powerful force....

Save it for the track.

.... if you were only going about 80 mph you're probably fine but much faster than that and you could have a time bomb on your hands ..... tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick, tick ......

A year or so ago I had some valve problems (flashing CEL!) after driving home one night and I did nothing wrong shift-wise that night. The most reasonable explanation: a "slight" overrev I did when I first test drove the car before buying, OVER THREE YEARS PRIOR to that night.

ticking time bomb is right...

I'll suggest you spending a night or 2, sitting in garage and practice shifting... it's a different thing when people money shift from 5th to 2nd (instead of 4th). from 6th to 5th only require straight pattern, something tells me that you are way eager to enjoy your S2000 but you simply not ready.

if you want more real world driving keep it at 60mph, then even you misshift again, you don't need to worry about overreving at 3rd.

He's new; wouldn't have caught the reference. But the idea of someone who misses a 6=>5 downshift (one of the easier downshifts to get right, even in a hurry), not once, but three times, driving like that on the public roads does conjure up images of Greenie "rocking" his bald tires in the snow.
