I was thinking of upgrading my Photoshop 5.0 to CS2 soon but I guess I'll wait another year or so.

what's your take on this?

Looks good! Didn't have a chance to look thoroughly yet, but I like what I saw through the quick tour.

I haven't learned all the new features of CS2 yet.

The upgrade price for CS3 Extended version chaps my hide. They really are scratching to make a buck by selling two versions now. What, the new functions in every prior release of Photoshop weren't big enough to merit multiple editions?

I tend to skip Photoshop versions so this looks like a skipper for me. I hate taking the time to come up to speed on new interfaces and playing "where did they hide that function?"

I've got the beta sitting in my downloads folder right now, but haven't had the desire to install it. I'm not sure there are enough features to justify the price hike between CS2 and CS3, but maybe that will change down the road.

my CS3 will be coming shortly, the best features i see is the intergration w/ flash now between illustrator and photoshop. also, they seemed to have improved the development end of things and added a lot more automation along w/ the use of scripts. have to talk w/ the owner of my company on monday to get it pre-ordered

Be careful. As of CS3, Adobe is only allowing the upgrade price going back to version 7, I believe. The folks at NAPP are advising people with old versions to upgrade now to CS2 which will allow upgrading later to CS3, ultimately for less money than having to buy CS3 new.

The only thing nice about it is the HDR support.

It's 3d tools are weak. It's a start though.

No one is going to use CS3 for texture painting on the model when those tools already exist with far more capability ;-)

Max, Rhino, Maya, etc.........................

Also the improved raw features are nice for you DSLR guys but really a factor to spend all the money?

CS2 still fits the bill.

For reference I've been using PS since version 2. I'm a full-time software engineer and used to make plugs for the app. :-) I'm also an experienced modeler and have been using 3d tools since the days of 3DS1 and wavefront on SGI onyx rigs.

To note CS3 makes better use of Dual Cores and the like.
