Default Camera Advice Needed

Hello! I never post here but now that my little cousin wants to get into photography, I figured this would be the best place to ask.

As I said, he wants to get into photography. Lately he's been reading up about taking good pictures and such and snapping some photos with his sister's camera. He wants a nice camera for himself and was looking at the XT. Would this be a suitable camera for a beginner? And would $469 be a good price for such a camera?

Thanks in advance!

xt, xti, xsi are gonna be canons "amateur" cameras. all are good to begin with depending on the budget. nothing beats a photography class if hes into it.
just buying a used camera can be just as good for him since he is starting to learn how to use it. photography isnt a cheap hobby

If you look around you can also do better than $469 just saw an xt with grip sell for $350 on another forum.

dell was selling the canon xti for $319 body alone last month, xti with kit lens will do fine for your budget

the Rebel series are great for someone looking to get into the dSLR hobby. you're better off spending the cash saved on buying a rebel on lenses and photography class than the higher priced dSLR models.

i have a 400D xti and i love it! i've played around with my cousin's 30D and the picture quality seems okay compared to the 30D (in my amateur eyes that is)
