How do you get images OFF the camera
#11
I use the reader.
It seems like everyone just uses the fastest method for them. If they have a crummy reader, they use USB, but otherwise, they use the card directly.
I also prefer not to have the camera wired up to the computer because it can get a bit messy, but that's a preference. If it was a lot faster, I'd do it that way regardless.

Ooolllldddd card reader. It's slow. 2.1MB/sec I've been meaning to benchmark the camera but I suspect that it's a bit quicker. This poll should turn into a "fastest" card reader discussion since I wouldn't mind just replacing the POS.

I just plug my camera in. My stupid logic says, the less times you take in/out the car, the lower chance of errors. Those pins going in/out of the card can't be great for it. True? No idea. I have yet to have a corrupt file though.

Speaking of pins, how often is it that those things bend in the camera?
I've heard of it happening to some people, just not sure how common of a problem it is.
Thankfully my low-end rebel uses SD cards

I repeatedly scream and yell at the memory cards until they do what I tell them to and if they really dont listen, I give them the finger and tell them that their mother was a class 1 card that used to drop packets! THAT usually works.

i use a scandisk firewire CF reader to move my images. i think its faster then my backup usb reader but not sure,
FireWire, built from the ground up for speed, uses a "Peer-to-Peer" architecture in which the peripherals are intelligent and can negotiate bus conflicts to determine which device can best control a data transfer
*
USB 2.0 uses a "Master-Slave" architecture in which the computer handles all arbitration functions and dictates data flow to, from and between the attached peripherals (adding additional system overhead and resulting in slower, less-efficient data flow control)
