This isnt about a photo , but about a graphic. I was sure you guys would know though. Basically, an S2Ki member posted up an existing logo, and wanted it modified to suit his purpose and preference. I did it for fun, and later found out it is for his city league football team. Graphic will be used on helmets etc. Now that it is finished, the team owner wants a full release of the image. I have no problem with this personally, BUT, I didnt create the original image. I simply modified it. What do I do in this situation?

I'd try to find to owner of the original image. Could be that team's owner if you're lucky (and he's asking for a release just on your work). And then negotiate rights to use.

Make another logo. If the original owner wanted to get nasty about it, he could come after you for copyright violation and would probably win if things went to court.

Never ever give out full release, unless they pay a pretty penny for it.

Make another logo, also never give up full release. Unless your satisfied with the compensation you receive.

Do not play the game with the work you have now, It is a modification of someone elses work. Which could turn nasty.

If it's considerably different, just get paid in cash, and call it a day. Don't release it without a nice chunk of coin.

We could better serve you if you posted the original and your edit here so we can see the amount of changes you made. Agreed with contacting the original creator, it is just courteous and would be a nice idea to give them some of the profit unless you did a LOT of work.

I didnt change it enough (in my mind) to make any real claim to it. Here is the original the guy wanted modified:

Here's what I did with it:

I definitely wouldn't run it.

Even the ORIGINAL reminds me of the logo Honda uses on their bikes.

Yours is just a misrepresentation of the "original".

I like what you did to the logo. Nice modern angled look.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I wish I'd known what the purpose was...I spent not a whole lot of time, but enough, that since it's useless, Im a bit disappointed. I think Im going to come up with something fresh for them. SO, are you guys saying I can get in trouble for this if it gets used? I didnt charge the guy anything..I just wanted to do it for fun. Im pretty sure its in use right now...
