Default Mac or PC Next Computer Purchase

I'm sure this has been discussed before in the past, I'm bringing it up now, and I'm sure someone will bring it up in the future.....

I am currently a PC user.. have been for most of my life (although I used Macs in college, and I had a Powerbook G4 that I used sporadically when I was travelling).

I am going to be purchasing a new computer probably Q1 of next year and have been going back and forth on which route to go... I am posting this here because
one of the things I'd like to work on is post process work, editing, etc...

If you had the choice, which would you purchase, and why... Thoughts?

Thanks in advance

For an in-general opinion, i'd go for the mac. I've been a PC user all of my life (due to price difference) but I really want a mac for my next box.

As for the photography point of view, I really don't think it matters. Great PP apps like photoshop or lightroom are available on both platforms and don't necessarily perform better or worse on either one. You can even get great organization/simple-editing apps like iPhoto or Picasa2 on both platforms.

Personally, i'd go for a Mac just because I want one. As for photos, I don't think it really matters.

A lot of people have said nothing but great things about iphoto. I used iphoto sparingly in the past..what makes it so great?

Also, I saw Aperture 1.5... is this similar to PS?

I use mac only

Iphoto, to upload photos to my .mac account
Aperture is macs version of photoshop
Itunes great, I think is available for both platform PC & MAC

and just found this...

"Parallels Desktop for Mac
Run any version of Windows at blazing speed--right alongside Mac OS X--with Parallels Desktop for Mac. And there's no need to reboot."

buy mac live happy

Mocky.

for sole purpose of photo, see what software you'll be using. both platform offer great SW with little difference. I'd buy less expensive platform and with the money saved, I'll invest on better monitor. because it will give you the better definition on color as well as easy on eyes.

Hey hey.. long time no chat..

You are right... I have a lot to think about in terms of what I'd like to use in terms of software.. definitely photoshop... right now I use Nero for simple dvd work... dreamweaver for web stuff, but that's about it right now (well, off the top of my head..I'm sure I use some other apps, but I'm drawing a blank).

I just got an email from a friend praising iphoto again... I understand how great it is for organizing, but what else is there?

The monitor choice is definitely important too.. I do like the Mac monitors.. not only from a design standpoint, but from image quality as well...

Keep this going... I appreciate everyones input on this

if you use alot of connectivity and and want an environment where it all works try a mac portable with your bluetooth keyboard, mouse, iphone, earbud, office/home/coffee shop wifi etc.

mac has some holes:
-no pda, micro portable
-their portable has the FredFlinstone (RIP) look feel

does mac have anything functional as in:
-unix home firewall apps running unix on a lo performance/cost pc platform
-mac has no good video tuner cards, video capture
-its only a matter of time untill the DoGooders over whelm their preception of bad and everything will become copy protected. windows & mac will go this rout.

Stick with a PC since that is what you are familiar with. Just like what others have said, there will be little difference in terms of photo editing.

Using different software is very subjective. Some on here love iPhoto, but I personally hate it. I do own a MacBook Pro and although I love it, I'm not comfortable with the majority of Mac's software (ie iTunes, i(whatever)).
