Monopods
#2
I have one. I really struggled with how to use it effectively, so it sits in my closet.
I found that for several hours, at a race, shooting a football game, air show, etc.. I was fine handholding a D300 with a 70-200 2.8, etc.. I felt I had total control in my hands vs. using the monopod. My opinion might change if I was shooting with a 300, 400 or something larger and heavier for the day.
What are you thinking of using it for?

I'm in the same boat as Gary. I have one but never really found the need for it, or thought to myself "hey it'd be nice to have right now". If I ever need more of a steady shot for shooting i just use the straps around my neck and use my arms to brace with it.

Bought mine awhile back and it to sits in my closet. Brought it once for a football game, low light but I found hand holding was more flexible. I finally got a chance to use it 'Once' for video... Where a tripod was too prohibitive. Save your money =)

Wasn't going to use it for anything in particular as someone said it's just nice to have one...
Don't really see to many people with them so just didn't know what people thoughts were on them...
