SO.....who is going to jump 1st. I am torn between just doing this or waiting to see what the 40D or 5D replacement will be.

I'm wondering why they decreased the sensor resolution to something that can be found in a $700 model? The Mark II is like 16.7MP right?

^1DS Mark II is 16 (full frame) & the 1DSn Mark II is 8 (1.3x crop)

THE NEW 1DSn Mark III is 10 (1.3x crop)

What is the anticipated date for the 40D being released?

^This year..."sometime"

There isn't any real confirmed leaks yet.

good guess speculation:

1. DIGI III
2. 10 mp
3. 5-8 fps
4. 1.6x crop
5. semi or full weather sealed (wish more than real imho)
6. Dust Shaker
7. Better Noise IQ

Think XTi and 1DSn Mark III have a baby.

This 1.3x crop & full frame stuff have me confused...

As I've never used film cameras, I am not familiar w/ full frame. Are the dimensions of the images different? I think I remember someone saying that they're sooo glad that the XTi is back to "3:2" now.

To me, 1.3x sounds like it zooms in on the image 1.3x and takes the excess off... right? Argh, sorry for my stupidity.

Here read this and it should help:

http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorial.../dslr-mag.shtml

Red shows what a 35mm camera would capture and Blue shows what a 1.6x crop DSLR would campture. The 1.3x crop 1DSn Mark III would capture somewhere in between.

Reverse that. The crop body (1.3 or 1.6 for Canon or 1.5 for Nikon) acts as a multiplier. Means you can't go as wide as the number says, but you are going longer than the number says (my 10-22 is on a crop body, its actual zoom range is 16-35, the 24-70 is actually 38-112 and 70-200 is 112-320).

For people who like taking wide angle shots, it hurts them, for those who want long reach, it helps. The advantage/disadvantage of a crop body was lost on me even though I'm more of a wide angle landscape kind of guy, 30D was priced right.

Hope that helps.

I was thinking about purchasing a 5D, but the only thing holding me back is the 3fps feature that it has. I'm hoping the 5D's replacement will be at least 5fps.

Or maybe I should just suck it up and get this new 1D.

Once this is actually released and the used market gets flodded with MkII's, I'll buy a MkII.
