And can someone explain ISO to me?
But there is a dark side to this.
Imagine turning your stereo on, but not playing any music. Now start turning the volume up. The louder you turn it up, the more hiss you get. The exact same thing happens with ISO; as you turn it up get more light, but you also get more noise.
Some camera's are made specifically to deal with this issue, like my D700, but good ISO performance is a hard thing to come by in inexpensive camera's. The noise at 1200 ISO in these camera's is more than the noise at 6400 ISO in mine, as there are simply too many pixels for the size of the sensor.
ISO can be very important, or useless, depending on what you regularly shoot.

ISO is light sensitivity amplification. For example, if you're shooting without a flash @ ƒ2 / ISO 200 and the pic is a bit underexposed, raising the ISO to 800 will brighten the picture (if all other variables remain constant).

Makes my EOS 500D HD video capability feel obsolete, that's for sure. I think it's called the T1i where you guys are. It's practically a gimmick without the autofocus and mono microphone channel. Glad to see Nikon taking the initiative.
