Default New Photography Enthusiast

hey everyone, i'd like to make my presence official. i've been lurking this particular forum for a while now and appreciate the 'creative criticisms'. i've got a few clicks under my belt, but none good enough to be posted. i started taking some random shots at local s2k meets and have them uploaded to flickr and occasionally post pics for the local group to see (none of which i would consider 'praise' worthy). i hope to learn more about composition and feel as though my mechanics are kinda par.

a bit of background:
spring of last year i purchased my first dslr, a d60 + 18-55 kit lens
- with that setup i was able learn a bit of photography, coupled with personal lessons from photographer friends, developed a greater appreciation for photography as an art form.

early winter of last year i upgraded from said d60 to the super awesome d90 + tamron 17-50 2.8 + 50 1.8 (working on an sb600)
- i do believe with my current setup, my attempts at photography have gotten better

i'll continue to lurk this forum and maybe put some input from time to time (where it may help)

cheers,
francis

anything could be posted if you're looking for constructive criticism. However, it'll save everyone concerned a lot of headache if one decides before they post whether they want that constructiveness to their ego, or to their work.

cheers.

1) too much pavement in the foreground. Clone / crop out the junk on the right. Other than that, it's better than most of the "first post" stuff iin here.

2) needs fill on the right

3) good time to use the black card technique. It's too wide, there's no skyline detail.

4) not enough buildings / ambient atmosphere.

5) needs fill in the front. Right now it's too bright to be a silhouette shot, too dark to show any details.

6) not feeling it at all.

I like #4 very much. Fireworks aren't the easiest to capture, so you should feel good about that one.

#1 would be good if you got rid of the crap on the top right and the other car. Removing some pavement would work well also.

you should check his flickr; #4 is by no means a representation of what he could do. Love his other ones with the fireworks
